bogged down blogging

So the reason I am constantly putting off posting on my blog is that I want to show you pictures!! However, it seems like the only time I can be on the computer sucessfully is at work and I don't have the pictures here. (To be truthful, there are over 300 pictures on my camera right now, haven't taken them off since December).

As I am determined over this pregnancy to move my IPA (income producing activities) more inside the home. This means I MUST figure out how to be more productive online. Right now it is very hard. Elisa only takes an hour and a half nap-or less. During that time, as baby number two zaps my energy, I also endeavor to be napping. In the evenings I am focused on cooking, cleaning and family time.

It is hard, almost impossible, to spend any concentrated time in the office when Elisa is awake. She wants to be in my lap, pounding on the keyboard, which is a little counterproductive! Hopefully this situation will resolve itself a little as she gets older. Anyone have any ideas, encouragement or commiseration to share on this topic?

Maybe you could put a special box of toys in the office. Stuff she only gets to play with while in there. I let Layla play with old magazines and junk mail when I have her in the office. It will get better in a couple months when her imagination takes off and she starts to pretend.

Not sure if this would work for you guys but I'm going to make Layla a small desk for her in the office. She'll have her magazines, coloring books and crayons. I think I might find an answering machine for her too since she loves playing with ours.

Those are good ideas, April!

I don't have any personal experience to share from, Grace, but a friend of mine has an in-home business and has blogged about it. She mentioned that she has found the early mornings to be the most productive time for her to get work done on the computer, before her kids wake up...would something like that work for you? Logging in an hour in the morning and then maybe some time later too?

Is your mom still watching Elisa while you work or is that changing?

Hey Grace...found your blog via Nate and Rachel...via Andy and Jenica. I missed you Tuesday at BSF. Our group was small with many out with sickness. I don't know how we can work it since my mom works now, but we need to have lunch sometime (since I missed out on Olive Garden last year). See you this Tuesday?

Hey sister,

I think the only option is to get Elisa her own computer. She will be happy with nothing less, if I know her. I believe her father will also be very pleased with this idea. I would also promote duct tape.

Since I've started doing the transcription work, I'm running into the same thing. Since I have to closely listen to the audio as I type, I cannot have children around to do it. My only options are to:

1) Work during nap-times.
2) Have Doug watch the kids for an hour or so after he gets home from work.
3) Work after DJ goes to bed (he's in bed by 7:30, so it's not bad.)

What time does Elisa normally go down? Would it be easier to switch cleaning to the afternoons so you could work some after she goes to bed? Or does too much of your work involve telephone calls and such? If I lived closer, I'd let you hire me as an in-home sitter so that you could get work done. =) Usually I find that if I'm not being able to work a schedule out, it's because I'm not wanting to give up something that I want to do, not because the schedule is impossible. (like naps, favorite shows, down time, things like that.) With work I'm definitly having to give more up.

I love you. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help (take Elisa for the summer?!)

Hum...I have been thinking about what works for me, with computer time. Usually I am only able to use the computer when A naps. Occasionally I can other times, but it is hit or miss. I have a lap top that I can bring around, and if A is playing well on his own I try to get on for a few minutes here or there. Usually during breakfast I will bring it down too, and while we are eating I will check email and such.
A is like Elisa, he likes to bang on the keys as well...not so good.
Thankfully I am not pregnant right now, so I don't need the naps, but when I do get pregnant again I guess I will have to work something else out. Maybe by then A will play better on his own.
I wish I could help out!
